What is Profhilo and how does it work?
Profhilo is made from a highly purified form of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the skin and helps it retain moisture. It contains two different sizes of hyaluronic acid molecules, which are combined using a special heat-based process called NAHYCO® rather than the chemical cross-linking used in conventional dermal fillers.
Because of this, Profhilo spreads more evenly through the skin instead of staying in one place to create volume or shape. It is mainly used to improve hydration, firmness, elasticity and overall skin quality, with results developing gradually over the weeks after treatment.
What can Profhilo help with?
Treatment is tailored to the type, depth and underlying cause of the pigmentation and may combine several approaches:
Dehydrated and dull skin
Dull, dehydrated or lacklustre skin that has lost its earlier radiance.
Loss of firmness
Early loss of skin firmness and elasticity.
Skin quality and texture
Improve overall skin quality, texture and radiance.
Crepey skin
Address crepey skin on areas including the face, neck, hands and décolletage.
How is Profhilo different from dermal fillers?
For patients whose main concern is volume loss or contour definition, a dermal filler may be more appropriate. Where the main concern is reduced hydration, firmness or skin quality, Profhilo may be a better option.

What to expect from treatment
Profhilo is administered using a series of carefully placed injections using the BAP (bio aesthetic points) technique, typically five points on each side of the face. Treatment usually involves two sessions approximately four weeks apart, with results developing gradually over the following weeks as collagen and elastin production is stimulated. Good skincare and diligent sun protection support and extend the results.
Small injection-site bumps may be visible for a short period following treatment but typically resolve within a day or two. Most patients return to normal activities immediately after the session.
Consultation and assessment
Dr Phillips assesses your skin quality, concerns and treatment goals to determine whether Profhilo is appropriate.
Treatment
Profhilo is administered at carefully selected injection points using the BAP technique.
Second session
A second treatment is typically performed approximately four weeks later as part of the initial course.
Gradual results
Skin hydration, firmness and elasticity improve gradually over the following weeks as the treatment takes effect.
How many sessions are needed and how long do results last?
Most patients undergo an initial course of two sessions approximately four weeks apart, followed by maintenance treatments every four to six months to sustain the results. Because Profhilo works by stimulating the skin's own collagen rather than adding a foreign substance, results develop gradually and look natural rather than sudden. The longevity of results varies between individuals and is discussed at consultation alongside a recommended maintenance plan.

Is Profhilo suitable for all skin tones?
Profhilo can be suitable across a wide range of skin tones. Because it is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment rather than a laser or light-based procedure, it does not carry the same risk of treatment-induced pigmentation that can occur with some energy-based treatments.
Dr Phillips has extensive experience treating patients across different skin tones and tailors treatment according to the individual’s skin, facial anatomy and treatment goals.
Why choose Dr Derrick Phillips for Profhilo in London
Dr Phillips takes a measured, patient-centred approach to skin ageing, considering Profhilo in the context of your overall skin quality, concerns and treatment goals. It is not used as a one-size-fits-all rejuvenation treatment, but as one option within a personalised plan.
Depending on your skin and priorities, Profhilo may be recommended alongside treatments such as polynucleotides, laser treatments or a revised skincare routine. In other cases, a different treatment may be more appropriate for the concern being addressed.

FAQs
Is Profhilo a filler?
No. Although both contain hyaluronic acid, Profhilo is not cross-linked and spreads through the skin rather than sitting in a specific location. Its purpose is to improve skin quality, hydration and firmness, not to add volume or alter facial contours.
How many sessions will I need?
Most patients undergo two sessions approximately four weeks apart as an initial course, followed by maintenance treatments every four to six months. The exact plan depends on your skin and is confirmed at consultation.
When will I see results?
Results develop gradually over the weeks following each session as collagen and elastin production is stimulated. Most patients notice improved hydration and skin quality within two to four weeks of their second session, with continued improvement over the following months.
Where can Profhilo be used?
In addition to the face, Profhilo is commonly used to improve skin quality on the neck, hands and décolletage, all of which are areas where skin quality decline is often visible before significant volume loss occurs.
Is there an age restriction?
Yes. Profhilo treatment is for adults aged 18 years and over only.
How long do Profhilo results last?
The duration of results varies between patients depending on factors such as age, skin quality and lifestyle. Profhilo is not permanent, and maintenance treatments may be recommended to help sustain improvements over time.
